OK i have a lot of stuff swirling through my head right now mostly out of frustration and anger so i will not be able to write a really thoughtful coherent response (like i always do ///).
These are anti Semites. They could care less about Israel or the Israeli government or the Palestinians. They are using this as a cover.
I am so angry that truly dangerous people have been given a bigger voice again in main stream democratic societies. This is how so many tragedies begin.

Well,that’s rather obvious.

Doesn’t the image actually imply that William Tell was aiming at Switzerland but wasn’t the legendary marksman he was thought to be, and thus killed his son Israel instead?

Whoever made this is both a jerk and terrible with analogies. Reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer protests the mail:

Woman: Why does this dummy [of a mailman] have a bucket on its head?

Kramer: Because we’re blind to their tyranny.

Woman: Then shouldn’t you be wearing the bucket?

Kramer: Yeah, move along, Betty.

W? T? F? That’s some seriously sick, dangerous crap.

Parts of Europe are circling the drain. Or maybe they never crawled out of the sewer to begin with, and it’s simply out in the open again.

Reminds me of all the great Swiss comedians of the past.

Yet the “Peace Activist” branch of the left rail against Zionism and question why a Jewish State is needed? They sound just like all the other history deniers/revisionists, they declare anti-Semitism dead simply because they want it to be. Then say that the Jewish people are at fault or are overreacting with excessive force every time their is any loss of life in the ongoing lands dispute with the Palestinians.

Want to talk about being willfully blind? Well that and a severe and chronic case of confirmation bias? These people are even more blind to reality than the GOP supporters who still believe that the current Republican party stands for Fiscal Conservatism.

Cheese, chocolate and whiskey.

All too fattening anyway.

They’re also a lot rarer, and hold far less power.

I like Switzerland a lot, and I hope this doesn’t represent the general sentiment there. In fact, I’m more or less sure it doesn’t.

Anyhoo, this is not only an antisemitic/assholic move, it’s also self-defeating as most of Europe has those hate speech laws. Somebody may do some jail time, or at least a fine.

re: #9 Sergey Romanov

The people involved with this ad might get theirs, but I’m not so sure this incident is not representative. This is the same Switzerland which recently banned building minarets.

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com…]

The fact that such bigotry had become law gave me (yet another) reason to doubt if hate speech laws accomplish much of anything.

Sure, the idiots who “go too far” like these can end up in jail. But just because most racists aren’t open, that doesn’t mean they’re impotent.

Besides…

A GNC member claimed the ad was directed against the Israeli government,

Isn’t this exactly the rationale for nearly every antisemitic jackhole these days? Of course, when spin isn’t enough to keep hate “legal,” there’s always code.

Haters always find a way. Only open confrontation can expose their evil before someone else drinks the kool-aid. (by “confrontation,” I don’t mean physical altercations)

Hate speech laws turn that confrontation into a spectator sport. And “its against the law” becomes the only argument against hate. Its naive to think this approach will convince anyone hate is wrong. If anything, the haters come out looking like freedom fighting martyrs. I’d rather they were labeled rodeo clowns than that.

Then one simply can’t win. For the open confrontation with them is often akin to fighting with a pig. One can confront something specific, like debunking the Holocaust deniers, for example, but I don’t see how one can “convince” anyone that hate is wrong. One can’t convince because hate is not rational.

I wasn’t talking about convincing the haters. I was talking about exposing them, and why this crap is wrong, before others get sucked into their mini-world of hate.

Why is there always at least one who misses that distinction? Do you really think anyone would seriously propose trying to melt a neo-nazi’s icy heart with gooey cliched speech?

When you wrote “Its naive to think this approach will convince anyone hate is wrong.” I did think you wrote it about the haters, because it’s not like people are not haters need convincing. But I’m just stupid like that.

You’re not wrong, but you’re not wrong for the U.S. Many European countries have laws banning anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial, Nazi symbolism or gatherings, etc.

Taking into account the devastation of WWII, some 80 million killed, cities razed, countries destroyed, they’re not allowing it. Anyway, the law isn’t there to change minds, but to punish and create consequences. It worked with the KKK. Morris Dees successfully sued for $7 million and basically bankrupted them out of power.

Hate is on the rise in both Europe and America. Do you know what a “feel-good law” is? Because this is an excellent example.

How about trying to figure out and address why hate is on the rise? If punishment alone was enough, booze (for example) would be a thing of the past.

It worked with the KKK. Morris Dees successfully sued for $7 million and basically bankrupted them out of power.

The KKK simply went underground. They, as well as other white supremacist groups in the US, are enjoying a resurgence.

Do you have better examples? These just aren’t doing it for me.

In other words, you take it for granted that hate is obviously insane. But just a few generations ago, hate was normal, and those preaching coexistence as equals were “insane.”

You just assume the wrongness of it all is obvious, and put all the focus on sticking the bad guys behind bars. It does feel good to make the bastards pay. But the rise in hate proves that we’ve missed something fundamental. Hate speech laws aren’t even making a dent.

Whoops! Forgot the “blockquote” on that first paragraph. I don’t understand why the preview button isn’t working for me lately, but thats what I blame.
